Rebecca Calvo, Subdistrict 1

I have lived in my home on Wynne Ave. since 2015 and have served on the District 10 Como Community Council since 2018 as a representative of Sub-District 1.

My work on the D10 Land Use committee has involved voting on several major building projects and variance requests, including the Twin Cities German Immersion School building project and the apartment building development project at the former Sholom Home. I have a deep appreciation for the dedication and passion of the people who volunteer their time and energy toward issues of neighborhood-wide importance, both on and off the Board. I am proud to work alongside so many talented and intelligent people!

I currently work as a post-doctoral research scientist at the University of Minnesota. My interest in collecting and analyzing research data helped me contribute to a neighbor-driven effort to improve the pedestrian pathways in Como Park. Our workgroup comprehensively mapped the park and surveyed (in person and online) more than 500 people on their use of the park. We wrote a report that summarized our findings (principally, that additional wayfinding signs would be valuable in Como Park) and included all the comments and feedback that we received. We recently provided this report to the St. Paul Parks Department and received very positive feedback. I will continue to work to ensure that the improvements are implemented, which I hope will enhance the experience of pedestrians navigating and enjoying Como Park for years to come.
